The Problem

When a Honda becomes a lemon

If your Honda has gone back for the same fault repeatedly and it's still not right, the warranty isn't doing its job — and that's the point at which lemon law takes over.

Common Defects

The defects behind most Honda claims

1.5T oil dilution (CR-V, Civic, Accord)

The 1.5L turbo four lets fuel seep past the rings into the oil, worst in cold climates and short trips: a fuel smell in the cabin, an oil level that climbs, rough running. Honda issued updates and extended the warranty in some regions — an admission the problem is real.

Nine-speed automatic (Odyssey, Pilot, Ridgeline)

The ZF-based nine-speed drew hesitation, hard shifts and lurching, and prompted recalls and software rewrites. A minivan that jerks on downshift isn't minor, and repeated reprogramming that doesn't cure it builds the record.

Infotainment & electrical

Frozen or rebooting screens, backup-camera dropouts and idle-stop faults come up often. Stacked with a drivetrain defect on the same car, they add to the count.

Arbitration

How a Honda claim moves

American Honda runs a dispute resolution programme, and whether you must use it first depends on your state. Going through it doesn't cost you the courtroom if it fails to fix the problem.

How It Works

How a Honda claim moves

01

Check the dates first

Your warranty term, mileage and the complaint on each repair order decide whether you have a claim at all. We work out how much of your state's window is left, and whether the federal Magnuson-Moss route still applies if it has closed.

02

Free case review

We read your repair orders and confirm which qualifying test fits and whether a safety-hazard route applies, because a safety defect usually cuts the repairs you need.

03

Written notice to the manufacturer

Most routes require written notice to the manufacturer and a reasonable opportunity to repair before a claim is filed. We handle it correctly so it can't be used against you later.

04

File the claim or arbitration

Depending on your state and manufacturer, that means the manufacturer's arbitration programme or a warranty lawsuit. A clean, well-documented claim gets a different result from a thin one.

05

Resolution

Repurchase, a comparable replacement, or a cash settlement that leaves you in the vehicle. On a repurchase the manufacturer deducts a mileage offset for use before the defect appeared.

Why Rockpoint Law

Why Honda owners choose Rockpoint Law

Oil dilution, transmission and electrical — we handle Honda claims. We read your repair orders and your dates first, and if the state window has closed we tell you whether the federal Magnuson-Moss route still works.

Where We Work

Where we handle Honda claims

Rockpoint Law runs Honda lemon law claims from offices in Philadelphia, Newark, Manhasset, Dallas and Miami, and takes cases nationwide. The state where you bought or registered the vehicle sets the rules that apply, so start with your state:

Two laws sit behind a Honda claim: your state's lemon law and the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. You don't need to sort out which applies before you call. Learn how the lemon law works or how a manufacturer buyback works, and estimate your figure with the buyback calculator.

FAQ

Honda Lemon Law: Frequently Asked Questions

My CR-V smells like fuel and the oil level is rising. Is that a defect?
That's the classic sign of 1.5T oil dilution, a documented Honda issue. If the dealer keeps updating the software and it keeps coming back, that's a repair that isn't working.
The dealer wrote 'no fault found' three times. Does that hurt me?
No — those are still three repair attempts. The entries matter later, so ask for a copy of the repair order every visit.
My Odyssey's nine-speed jerks on downshift. Is that a claim?
Repeated reprogramming that doesn't cure the hesitation or hard shifts builds exactly the record a claim needs.
What can I recover?
Typically a repurchase, a comparable replacement, or a cash settlement, with a mileage offset applied on a repurchase.

Don't face Honda alone.
